Units Of The Week Issue #19

This week, we had a piece on walk-up apartments that was rather well received.
So we’ve decided to look into walk-up apartments this week, with a simple criteria – it had to be nicely renovated.
The best part? They all have pretty good locations as well.

1Kim Keat Close

$1,500,000
Project: | Kim Keat Close Walk-up |
---|---|
District: | 12 |
Address: | Kim Keat Close |
Tenure: | Freehold |
Size: | 1,130 sqft |
$PSF: | $1,327.43 |
Developer: | – |
TOP: | – |
Why I like it
For an old apartment that has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, 1,130 square feet might not seem like an overly large space. But let’s not forget, there is no bay windows and the balcony here is absolutely minimal – so interior living space is very much usable.
It’s only 3 storeys high, so it really isn’t that bad a walk up to the apartment – plus walking up stairs daily is definitely good exercise! Interior wise it is well furnished and comfortably designed, you’ll barely be able to tell that you are living in an apartment as old as this on the outside.

2Tiong Bahru

$2,080,003
Project: | Tiong Bahru Walk-up |
---|---|
District: | 03 |
Address: | Tiong Poh Road |
Tenure: | 99 years |
Size: | 1,035 sqft |
$PSF: | $2,009.66 |
Developer: | – |
TOP: | – |
Why I like it
For those looking specifically for walk-up apartments, there’s no doubt that Tiong Bahru would be one of the first places you’ll look at. It’s a great place for a walk-up apartment, given that you are surrounded by mostly low rise apartments and lots of good food and chill out spots on the ground floor – it’s the perfect vibe.
As far as interior spaces go, this one is a spacious 1,035 square feet and it is considerably well renovated as well. The highlight for me? The balcony that you can sit during the evenings – it’s quite the chill spot.
– Druce

3Katong

$1,390,000
Project: | Katong Walk-up |
---|---|
District: | 15 |
Address: | Chapel Close |
Tenure: | Freehold |
Size: | 893 sqft |
$PSF: | $1,556.55 |
Developer: | – |
TOP: | – |
Why I like it
This is the smallest unit on this list at 893 square feet, which by today’s standards is actually rather spacious – most 2 bedroom new launch units are going at 6 – 700 square feet.
Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of the renovation, but for those who like the rustic, homely feel this would definitely be up your alley.
– Reuben

4Joo Chiat

$1,500,000
Project: | Joo Chiat Walk-up |
---|---|
District: | 15 |
Address: | 43 Joo Chiat Lane |
Tenure: | Freehold |
Size: | 1,001 sqft |
$PSF: | $1,498.50 |
Developer: | – |
TOP: | – |
Why I like it
In terms of the popularity of walk-up apartments, Joo Chiat is probably second only to Tiong Bahru. This unit is part of a development with only 16 units, with the monthly maintenance fee at only $100 a month.
It is purely residential, so there isn’t and ground floor shops – which could be a boon or bane – depending on if you value convenience or privacy. Either ways, its a short walk to Joo Chiat, a place with a ton of food options.
For those who like their home to be black based, this would definitely be a major attraction.
– Stanley

5Lewis Road

$2,588,888
Project: | Lewis Road Walk-up |
---|---|
District: | 10 |
Address: | Lewis Road |
Tenure: | Freehold |
Size: | 1,507 sqft |
$PSF: | $1,717.91 |
Developer: | YKK Development Pte Ltd |
TOP: | 1989 |
Why I like it
Not many people would have probably heard of Lewis Road, but it enjoys a quiet location along Bukit Timah. It’s walkable distance to Steven MRT, and close to good schools like SCGS and ACS.
There’s no balcony of any sort, so its maximum living space for the 3 bedrooms in the apartment.
– Sean
