This Man Turned Waste Materials Into DIY Furniture For His HDB
November 29, 2022
This week, we visit an HDB home on Clementi Avenue that is one of the most unique homes that we’ve seen so far. Homeowner Shu has totally transformed this original condition 1978 HDB unit into a Scandi-themed one that has furniture that he has very creatively put together because of his avid interest in woodworking.
Homes like this are as much about the property underneath as the design on top. The right layout, block and tenure make renovations like these possible, or much harder to achieve later.
That's often where we help readers: evaluating the property first, before committing to a big purchase.
Over time, that's also why we decided to work with agents who shared the same data-driven and advisory-led approach behind our editorial, consultants who could help readers think through decisions more objectively, rather than simply push transactions.
Today, the team has worked with more than 2,000 clients across over $5B in property transactions.
Here’s a list of some of the very ingenious items that he has put together:
- Dining lights made out of driftwood from East Coast Park
- Customised shelves using some wood that was originally sold as a kitchen countertop in IKEA
- Rattan shelves in the toilet
- Toilet basin with the stand from IKEA
- Wooden shed in the kitchen to conceal and store various appliances
- A shelve behind the sofa
- Self-installed bedside table
- A dining table that can be extended to cater for more guests
- A slide-out counter to put food from the microwave
Special thanks to Shu for showing us around the really creative home!
