Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and to be completely honest, this gift guide could have also come at a more opportune time (some of these products may take a bit longer to ship). Nevertheless, it’s better to give something good than to give something so unthoughtful that will just end up in the recycling bin or… regifted.

So if your other half is a bit of a home decor nutter, here’s a curated list of 15 of the best unique Valentine’s Day gifts to consider:

1. Diptyque Tubereuse Candle

As far as bougie perfumed candles go, Diptyque definitely has a strong reputation. For those who love dressing up their nightstand or shelves, this dark red glass is surely a stunner that will add a strong pop of colour to your home decor.

2. Final Touch Glass Brain Freeze Decanter

This hand-blown skull decanter is definitely going to be a talking point for any bar counter. The reviews do say that the glass is pretty thin and delicate, but given the price point, it is still quite amazing at the details of the “floating” glass skull.

3. Craighill Eyewear Stand

Now, I know looking at the name of the product sounds incredibly boring. But you have to understand the brand Craighill makes functional products look timeless and stylish. Founded in 2015 by Hunter Craighill, it’s a design and manufacturing brand that has built some really cool products like the Cal bookend, and the false books (it stores things inside). This eyewear stand is a minimal cast-metal piece that definitely looks better than lazily leaving your glasses around. For a country that has the majority of its population somehow requiring the use of spectacles or contacts, this will be a very relevant gift.

4. LOEWE Tomato Leaves Scented Candle

I really like the LOEWE candles, the handmade, glazed terracotta vessel look is a great addition to style any home. The box it comes in is a work of art too, and I’ve seen them placed in many places as a stylish decor pieces too. This particular red “tomato leaves” piece is supposed to smell like the fresh aroma of green vines just before they burst into colour!

5. Cotodama Lyric Speaker Box

Trust the Japanese to come up with such “wacky” products. This lyric speaker by Cotodama is exactly as it says, it can display song lyrics as the music is being played, and supports more than 2.4 million songs. Admittedly, the price tag is not for everyone, but the novelty of seeing the lyrics blazed across the speaker as your music plays just never gets old.

6. &Tradition VP9 Flowerpot Table Lamp

Designed by Verner Panton in 1968, the flowerpot lamp from &Tradition is a truly iconic piece. The portable VP9 version is smaller and lightweight, and modern as it comes with a USB charging cable. This reddish-brown version is a standout colour (although it does come in a variety of other interesting colours).

7. Slowdown Studio Alessi Throw

Slowdown Studio was founded by Marc Hendrick in LA in 2015 and has been creating the loveliest throws and blankets ever since. If you find it hard to pick from the variety on the site, this particular piece is the Alessi Throw, which was designed by Sydney-based Swedish illustrator Micke Lindebergh, who’s known for his colourful and playful abstract designs. You can use this as a throw on the couch, a picnic rug, or what is my favourite way, as a piece of art.

In a world of minimalist handmade pottery, the ones from Studio Arhoj really stand out due to their super unique designs. This one, in particular, is the Ghost – and one that is described as will “quietly inhabit your living space and are useful as lucky talismans, ring holders or decorative objects.” Each one is hand thrown, glazed, decorated, and low-fired in the kiln three times.

Soilboy isn’t your traditional plant-lover shop (as described on their about page). It’s a lifestyle brand that was born out of the pits that were Covid-19 in November 2021 and has since then steadily built a following from its curated selection of plants and handmade ceramics. This particular bonsai piece comes in a really minimalist pot, that would look at home in anyone’s balcony garden.

10. Hem Boa Pouf

While the price of this cotton candy pink pouf is definitely not for the faint-hearted, this doughnut-shaped Boa pouf by Sabine Marcelis (if her name sounds familiar, that’s because she’s the designer behind the recent IKEA x VARMBLIXT collection) is a real stunner. It will be a centrepiece of your living room and is a perfect place to sink in after a long day at work.
