In this week’s episode, we explore a unique home that has seamlessly blended Feng Shui principles with aesthetic appeal. Situated in a centralised location, this three-room resale HDB flat in Yishun offers both convenience and charm.
The house, a standard three-room HDB flat with a longish layout, had not been renovated for more than a decade. Despite its aged appearance, it boasts a design concept that beautifully combines Japanese influences with raw finishes.

The spaciousness of this home is evident as it caters to the needs of a bachelor who enjoys personal leisure, from watching movies to hosting friends and family. The design focuses on flexibility, offering a layout that suits various activities.

One striking feature is the organic curve design of the living room, which not only conceals structural elements but also divides the space creatively.

The study table, following Feng Shui guidelines, provides an optimal working position with a rounded table for comfortable seating.

Storage was a challenge due to Feng Shui requirements, but innovative solutions included cabinets outside the corridor with added security.

The arching limewash wall extends into the kitchen, providing a unique connectivity.

The kitchen, designed with a closed concept but maintaining an open feel, is versatile and practical. With the island in the middle and bi-fold doors, it adapts to different needs, allowing for a smooth flow of space between the living room and kitchen.

The service yard incorporates glass blocks framed with wooden frames, enhancing the Japanese feel while allowing natural light. It includes a collapsible table for versatility.

The common bathroom is minimal yet functional, with stainless steel shelving and art pieces to add character.

The master bedroom, concealed behind the limewash wall, exudes a warm Japanese atmosphere.

The master bathroom is a standout feature, with cream square grid tiles that complete the Japanese bathroom feel.

The designer successfully brought their vision to life, creating a pleasing and harmonious living space. It’s a testament to the effective combination of design and functionality.

With its thoughtful design and unique features, this home showcases how style and functionality can coexist, making it a distinctive place to call home.
