Ghim Moh is a relatively quiet enclave with great location, that will probably be lesser known to anyone not as familiar with the Queenstown side of Singapore. It is surrounded by its more popular neighbours of Holland Village and Buona Vista. If you are curious, the name ‘Ghim Moh’ came from the Hokkien term, loosely translated from golden hair. This is probably because of the many expats that live around the Holland Village belt.
If you have visited Ghim Moh before, it is a really nice area to live in as it is not as congested as other areas in Singapore. So if you are seeking a less populated area, Ghim Moh estate is the way to go. Because it is situated next to a landed housing area at Holland Grove, the towering blocks at Ghim Moh link provide great views of the surrounding areas and a better sense of space. As said earlier, because Ghim Moh is situated close to Holland Village and Buona Vista, it is a really convenient location to be in. Holland Village being a nice chill area for food and entertainment, and the Buona Vista zone where many MNCs and big companies have offices at. Also, being part of the Queenstown estate means that it is in close proximity to Orchard Road as well as the CBD (Central Business District). The attractiveness of Ghim Moh as a location shows from the prices as in June 2016, a unit at Ghim Moh Link fetched $963,888, the second most expensive public flat ever in the Queenstown area!
These blocks face the landed homes in Holland Grove, so you can expect lovely unblocked views here. The blocks go up to level 40, and the view at the top is really spectacular. In general, because of the height and lack of tall buildings around, you can expect it to be pretty windy. One thing to note if you are looking at the high levels, the higher up you are in general, the hotter you would expect it to be on sunny days.

On a clear day, you can see pretty far and those staying on the higher levels are really afforded fantastic views of Singapore.
Sheltered drop off points are especially useful during Singapore’s monsoon seasons. The shelter also leads all the way towards Ghim Moh market and the older block of flats along Ghim Moh road.
Its quite a wide walkway, very scenic as well. Most importantly, its sheltered!

Ghim Moh market was recently renovated, its a lot more airy and clean now. Many food stalls here so you will be spoilt for choice.
There is a wet market here too. This was taken in the afternoon, so many of the stalls have closed for the day.

There are multiple shops here. Hair salon, clinics and laundry just to name a few.
Well lit hawker centre. This isn’t the biggest, but there are enough stalls here for a nice variety of choice. Anyway, Ghim Moh market is a short walk away and so is Holland Village and the Buona Vista area so you are literally spoilt for choice when it comes to food options. 24 hour Sheng Siong just downstairs, this is really super convenient for residents living here.
On the top deck of the carpark there are multiple outdoor fitness stations
And various play areas for kids to use
There is even a preschool right at the top, great for young parents.
There is a nice small park right outside the block, and it is rather breezy here even in the afternoon.
From the little park you can walk down to the jogging path next to the canal. If you turn right that leads you to Buona Vista MRT.
If you turn left and follow the jogging path, this will lead you towards Clementi.

Not the best in terms of connectivity for buses, but Buona Vista MRT is a really short walk away.
Just a short walk opposite brings you to more eateries.
The famous Holland XO fish noodles is just opposite, another plus point.
Anglo Chinese Junior College is also just a short walk away. In fact, Ghim Moh Valley is really close to lots of prestigious schools.
Fairfield primary and secondary. Anglo Chinese Independent School is just next door as well.
Diagonally across is Singapore Polytechnic. Ngee Ann Polytechnic is also just a couple of bus stops away. If you are looking at universities, NUS is also located pretty close by.
The whole Rochester Park enclave is also walkable, a nice location to just chill with friends or family.
Star Vista is a great addition just a short walk away as well, lots of places to eat and shop and there is a Cold Storage at the basement as well.
Buona Vista MRT is really close by, this is a great transport link to the city. It is also an interchange as the Circle line is connected underground which connects you to places like Marina Bay, Serangoon and Paya Lebar directly.
The Biopolis area is home to many companies, so if you happen to be working there, Ghim Moh Valley is a really great option. If not, it is fantastic for rental in the future.

Ghim Moh Valley is a really good option due to a multitude of factors. If you are looking for a quieter part of Singapore that is not as crowded, this is really the area for you. Yet it is close enough to dining areas, work and the city such that travelling does not become a chore. It is also part of the new generation of flats that go up to 40 floors in height, and if you are fortunate enough to purchase one of the higher levels, the view is definitely very rewarding.
