HDB flats have a tough rep when it comes to views. It’s an unspoken (except in coffee shops and taxis) acknowledgement that HDB projects aren’t great for views. Barring a few special cases, like Pinnacle @ Duxton, the reality is that HDB projects are mass housing and hence high density. For the most part, HDB dwellers have to accept that their view probably involves looking at…well, other HDB blocks.
(Though if you’re really unlucky, in older blocks, you might be looking right into someone’s kitchen or bedroom.)
This week though, we had several featured flats sent in by readers, who shared listings of HDB units with unblocked views. So yes, they are out there, you just need to look really hard. Thanks to everyone who wrote in and contributed!

455C Teck Ghee Parkview

$955,000
| Attribute | Info |
| Address | 455C Ang Mo Kio Street 44 |
| Size | 1,001 sq ft |
| $PSF | $954 |
| TOP date | 2018 |
Why I like it
This flat sits in a quietly convenient part of Ang Mo Kio. It’s close to Ang Mo Kio Hub and Ang Mo Kio Town Garden East, while Chong Boon, Cheng San, and the 409 Ang Mo Kio markets and food centres are all within easy reach. Teck Ghee Neighbourhood Park is right next door, giving the area a more open and relaxed feel.
The unit is a 4-room flat with an unblocked view overlooking the park, towards a landed estate. Inside, the living and dining areas are clearly segregated, which I prefer to pure open concept plans.
This is one of the rare open kitchens I like (usually I prefer enclosed), as this one comes with an island counter that demarcates the kitchen from the dining area; islands are also a good functional addition, as they provide an added countertop. There’s also a separate service balcony off the kitchen, and a feature wall has been done up to conceal the home shelter entrance. With good natural light throughout, this unit is bright without being overly glaring.

212 Cantonment Close

$1,100,000
| Attribute | Info |
| Address | 12 Cantonment Close |
| Size | 969 sq ft |
| $PSF | $1,135 |
| TOP date | 2000 |
Why I like it
This is a rare central-area option. The flat is roughly within walking distance to Outram Park and Tanjong Pagar MRT stations, and also Cantonment MRT station, but that’s not open yet (hopefully this year). There is no shortage of food nearby, and the flat sits right next to Spottiswoode Park, with the Rail Corridor also within walking distance.
The unit is a 4-room flat in a point block, meaning just four units per level, one in each corner. That means better privacy and a less crowded feel. Due to the higher floor, the flat enjoys an unblocked view towards Outram.
The living and dining areas are spacious and nicely separated, and there is potential to carve out a small fourth bedroom from the dining area if needed. The master bedroom and an adjacent common bedroom have been hacked to create a single large bedroom, eliminating a narrow walkway and maximising usable space. Overall, the layout is efficient with minimal wastage, and it’s rare to find an unblocked view in such a heavily built-up area as Outram / Tanjong Pagar.

318 Marine Terrace

$795,000
| Attribute | Info |
| Address | 18 Marine Terrace |
| Size | 947 sq ft |
| $PSF | $839 |
| TOP date | 1974 |
Why I like it
Marine Terrace remains one of the few places where HDB buyers can still realistically find sea-facing units. This flat is within walking distance to the new Marine Terrace MRT station, which is one short ride away from Parkway Parade and i12 KAtong. That means it’s also close to 50A Marine Terrace Market, and within easy reach of East Coast Park and the beach. It also falls within one kilometre of Tao Nan School, which will matter to many families.
The Thomson – East Coast Line (TEL) has seriously uplifted the homes in this part of Marine Parade; it used to be accessible only by bus, but now there’s a direct line all the way to Marina Bay.
This is a 4-room flat on a high floor with a genuinely unblocked sea view, which is increasingly rare. The kitchen comes with an additional utility room that is versatile enough to function as a small bedroom if needed. The remaining three bedrooms are larger, as is typical of the flats in this mature town. An L-shaped kitchen cabinet maximises storage, while carving out a laundry area at the back of the kitchen; and the kitchen itself is large enough to function as a dining room in itself.

4143 Jalan Bukit Merah

$750,000
| Attribute | Info |
| Address | 143 Jalan Bukit Merah |
| Size | 1,259 sq ft |
| $PSF | $596 |
| TOP date | 1981 |
Why I like it
As we can expect from a Bukit Merah area flat, there are lots of everyday, heartland conveniences nearby. Besides the multiple eateries and a supermarket within this cluster, the Rail Corridor is within walking distance; great for those who appreciate greenery and long walks.
The unit is a 5-room flat in a point block, again meaning just four units per level. It’s high enough to give unblocked city views with pockets of greenery in the distance. The living and dining areas are well separated, and the living room is particularly generous in size. A balcony sits at the end of the dining area, flanked by two bedrooms. This is a flexible and versatile space, and it also helps draw more light into the dining area. The store is neatly tucked away in a corner, keeping the layout efficient with very little wasted space. Thanks to the greenery and mostly unblocked facing, it’s also easy to cool this unit just by opening the windows.

595 Dawson Road

$850,000
| Attribute | Info |
| Address | 95 Dawson Road |
| Size | 678 sq ft |
| $PSF | $1,254 |
| TOP date | 2021 |
Why I like it
Located in Queenstown, this 3-room flat recently reached its MOP. It’s within walking distance to Queenstown MRT station and a short walk to Dawson Place. There is also a food court and supermarket within the neighbouring HDB cluster, and a nearby park connector leads towards the Singapore River.
The unit overlooks a landed estate surrounded by greenery, giving it a surprisingly open outlook for a central location. The layout is a dumbbell configuration, which is not commonly seen in HDBs, and this allows the living room and both bedrooms to share the same unblocked view. There is potential to further segregate the living and dining areas if desired.
The kitchen is compact but practical, with a separate service balcony. The three-quarter height windows make the home feel more open, and brighten the living and dining areas considerably.
