In this week’s episode, Jay shares his journey of designing his dream home, which he envisioned as a sanctuary not just for himself but also for his friends and family.
Jay lives in a five-room HDB flat at Pinnacle@Duxton with his one-year-old Cavapoo, Marble. Spanning approximately 1,200 square feet, he has resided in this space for two years. His vision was to transform his home into a hotel-like retreat, leading him to renovate it over several months.
Upon entering, guests are greeted by a long corridor clad in fabric, concealing the bomb shelter and leading to the dining and bar counter.
One of Jay’s hobbies is cocktail mixing, and he designed an open bar to display spirits purchased during his travels. The bar features a raw unfinished travertine backsplash with lighting to highlight the spirits’ colours, reflected by the travertine. To keep things clean and easy, he opted for a stainless steel countertop, which also houses his wine fridge.
Jay’s love for cooking led him to design the dining table as the central space for gatherings, where friends can enjoy his culinary creations and cocktails. The table and chair designs are simple yet stylish, ensuring an unobstructed space for Marble to run around.
The kitchen is divided into an open dry kitchen for light meal preparation and a wet kitchen for heavier cooking. Jay chose a green onyx slab for the kitchen island to add a pop of colour and repurposed leftover onyx to create a coffee table for the living room.
The living room, designed for musical enjoyment, features a circular arrangement of furniture to encourage gathering and singing along. Jay designed a curved TV console with accent lighting around a structural pillar, incorporating wood grain.
The home’s flooring extends to the bedrooms with large format terrazzo tiles, creating a seamless look. In the common bathroom, Jay continued the bar and café ambiance with grey terrazzo tiles and integrated sound, providing a unique experience for guests.
Marble’s resting place is in the common bedroom, filled with loose furniture for storing her needs and toys.
The master bedroom offers a bird-eye view of the coastline and city, with the layout centred around the bed to maximise the sea view.
Jay’s thoughtful design and attention to detail have transformed his home into a personal retreat and a welcoming space for friends and family to enjoy.
As always, special thanks to the homeowners opening up their home to us.
