In this week’s episode, we explore a 970 sq ft, 4-room BTO flat on the 23rd floor in Singapore, designed to reflect the owners’ personalities with playful and colourful elements.
Upon entering, the foyer features a Dutch-inspired gate for airflow while keeping pets inside. An orange modular settee doubles as shoe storage, and full glass panels allow visual connection with the corridor.
The living room, repurposed as a dining area, houses a two-metre dining table customised from the sliding door material. White display shelves along the wall provide practical storage and a space to showcase colourful collections. Different dining chairs add a whimsical touch, with each one unique.
Two bedrooms were combined to create a larger living area for gaming and TV, eliminating the passageway. The chromate-treated steel sliding door, inspired by Tokyo retail design, serves as a decorative element. A curved detail softens the living space edge, and a platform offers additional seating and a designated TV nook.
Textured polycarbonate panels atop the divider bring natural light into the kitchen while maintaining privacy. The common bathroom entrance is concealed with light wood carpentry for a neat appearance.
The master bedroom door relocation allowed for a walkthrough wardrobe. Designer wallpaper above the bed and strong-coloured curtains create an inviting, theatrical atmosphere.
Personal touches like foregoing the bathroom door highlight the owners’ freedom within their private space. Subtle textures and forms in the ensuite bathroom, including metallic panels and glass blocks, add visual interest.
The kitchen, predominantly orange, stands out with orange and white checkered flooring for a retro vibe. Curved elements in the backsplash, cabinets, and flooring break from conventional angular forms. A dedicated wash area for future pets ensures cleanliness from daily walks.
Throughout the home, muted colours in fixtures allow the owners’ knickknacks to shine, each telling a story and reflecting their personalities. The design process involved experimenting with new materials, ensuring the home evolves with the owners’ lifestyle.
