5 Unique Walk-Up Apartments With Well-Designed Interiors

There’s no question that a walk-up apartment isn’t for everyone. Other than the obvious downside of having to walk up (if you aren’t living on the first floor), you don’t have facilities and it definitely doesn’t have a modern exterior.
Put those issues aside, however, and you often get a space that is full of character – whether it be a pitched roof, or even a circular balcony, there are unique attributes that can be worked upon. And of course, they will usually have bigger spaces than most new launch condos that you’ll see today.
So this week, we uncover some of the more interesting walk-up apartments on sale today!

1Rare Zion Road Walk Up Loft Apartment

$2,800,000
Address: | Rare Zion Road Walk Up Loft Apartment |
---|---|
Tenure: | 999-year Leasehold |
Size: | 1190 sqft |
$PSF: | $2,352.94 PSF |
Developer: | N/A |
TOP: | N/A |
Why I like it
Most people would associate walk up apartments with Tiong Bahru, and so this is definitely a more unique location at Zion Road. So while the area doesn’t hold as much character, it is without a doubt a lot more convenient (especially when the Great World MRT is up). You are directly opposite Great World (where there’s shopping, food, groceries and a cinema). You can also walk to Robertson Quay for even more food options, and there’s always Zion Road Hawker Centre too.
This is a 3 bedroom and 3 bathroom unit sized at 1,600 square feet so you do have a good amount of space. You have quite high ceilings, and the entire space is done up really nicely too – it isn’t a cookie cutter look and rather fitting with what you might expect from a cool walk up apartment!

2Lovely Walkup Near Park & Bartley MRT

$1,590,000
Address: | Lovely Walkup Near Park & Bartley MRT |
---|---|
Tenure: | Freehold |
Size: | 1087 sqft |
$PSF: | $1,462.74 PSF |
Developer: | N/A |
TOP: | N/A |
Why I like it
Here’s another walk up that’s not located at Tiong Bahru! Located at Pillai Road in the Bartley area, it isn’t going to be the best spot where transport is concerned as Bartley MRT station is not a comfortable walking distance away (to me, at least).
This is a 2 bedroom and 1 bathroom unit that’s just over a 1,000 square feet in size. But it should feel bigger than it is on paper, no thanks to that really high pitched roof. The beams across provide a very differentiated look, and it even has a ceiling fan despite the high ceiling, so it should help with the monthly electrical bills.
The orange and blue walls are certainly eye catching, it may not be for everyone but there’s certainly no doubting the charm and uniqueness of the layout.

376 Guan Chuan Street

$1,200,000
Address: | 76 Guan Chuan Street |
---|---|
Tenure: | 99-year Leasehold |
Size: | 1040 sqft |
$PSF: | $1,153.85 PSF |
Developer: | Housing & Development Board (HDB) |
TOP: | 1967 |
Why I like it
As far as walk up apartments go, you’d never go wrong with Tiong Bahru as a location given its heritage and lifestyle options for the design oriented people out there. In an area such as this, it’s almost difficult to find an average looking interior apartment, such is the level of design in this enclave.
This is a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment that is spaciously sized at 1,040 square feet. It was a former 4-room SIT flat that has been converted to its present day spaciousness, which still has the flexibility of converting to a 2 bedroom + study unit instead.
It’s got a good sized open living area (the high ceiling helps), a minimalist balcony backdrop for those into plants, as well as a sizeable open kitchen along with a kitchen island.

456 Eng Hoon Street

$1,080,000
Address: | 56 Eng Hoon Street |
---|---|
Tenure: | 99-year Leasehold |
Size: | 752 sqft |
$PSF: | $1,436.17 PSF |
Developer: | Housing & Development Board (HDB) |
TOP: | 1937 |
Why I like it
This isn’t the biggest 2 bedroom walk up apartment that you’d find, at 752 square feet. It’s located along Eng Hoon Street, in one of the arguably more aesthetically pleasing apartment buildings.
I won’t delve into the locational attributes of Tiong Bahru, but it’s definitely one for those that love to have a coffee at a nice cafe during the weekends.
The apartment itself is very trendy looking, and I especially like the bathroom as the plants really give it a greenhouse feel!

578 Guan Chuan Street

$1,650,000
Address: | 78 Guan Chuan Street |
---|---|
Tenure: | 99-year Leasehold |
Size: | 1237 sqft |
$PSF: | $1,333.87 PSF |
Developer: | Housing & Development Board (HDB) |
TOP: | 1937 |
Why I like it
This is another 2 bedroom 1 bathroom walk up apartment at Tiong Bahru. This time, its located at Guan Chuan Street (opposite Seng Poh Garden). The unit has an elongated shape, so the living room and bedrooms are located in a row.
The living room is one of the more unique aspects of the apartment, with a rounded corner provided for an interesting view visually.
Probably the most intriguing aspect for me is the open area located along the bedrooms. It’s quite a sizeable space so you can use it as a mini-garden or even have a nice private outdoor dining experience.
