Inside A Striking Modern Japanese Kaiseki Bar Set In A Shophouse

This week Reuben and Aiken tour a modern Japanese bar set on the second storey in a shophouse.
Japanese cuisine is everywhere in Singapore, but when you hear of kaiseki what often comes to mind is an elevated but hush-hush dining experience. So when you first hear of the name GOHO Kaiseki & Bar, that’s immediately what you might think of – a discreet dining experience.
So visiting GOHO for the first time, you might just be taken aback at how different the space is. The people behind The Feather Blade, Mezcla, and Rappu have started this new immersive dining experience that is quite unlike what you’d be used to from a kaiseki experience.
To enable that, they used LA-based architectural firm OWIU (The Only Way Is Up) to create a definitive club-like atmosphere. From the 11-metre long black-green Verdi Alpi marble bar counter to the purple, blue, red, and orange ambient lights – the space has a distinct look, especially with the raw patina-ed sheets of metal at the restaurant entrance.
Special thanks to Sheen Jet, one of the co-founders of GOHO for showing us around! For more, please visit: https://www.instagram.com/goho.kaiseki/
