This week, we join homeowners Qin Hui and Janice as they take you through their recently renovated 5-room HDB resale flat in Boon Keng. They moved in 6 months ago and were determined to create a modern minimalist space that reflected their personal style and love for entertaining.
With a floor area of 1,184 square feet and a renovation cost of $100,000, they did an entire overhaul of the previous owner’s 16-year-old home. One of their favourite features of the house is the full city view from the kitchen, as well as the spacious living room. The uniform white and grey colour scheme, along with walnut wood furniture pieces, helps to reduce visual clutter, creating a calming atmosphere. They opted for a short throw projector instead of a TV to keep in line with the minimalist theme. Also, they went for micro cement flooring that was used throughout the home for its ease of maintenance and warmth to the touch.
In the kitchen, they had to hack a wall to make space for the fridge and used stainless steel for the countertop and backsplash for its durability. The master bedroom was also hacked down to enlarge the space and create an attached study. The steel countertop in the study was used to match the kitchen design.
Finally, they find that their minimalist space truly helps them unwind after a long day at work, with its simplicity and lack of clutter.
Special thanks to Qin Hui and Janice for opening up their home to us.
