This week, we tour a really expansive 1,500 square feet 5-room resale HDB home in Yishun. Homeowners Qian Wei and Charmaine self-designed their home, and along with the expertise from Qian Wei (who is into carpentry) has fashioned a home that is open and full of interesting details. First up, upon noticing that many of their neighbours had done the same, they purchased the recessed area that they turned into a hallway. The result is that it allows the kitchen to look bigger and wider because of the light coming in from the windows.
Other interesting details include Moroccan tiles that they placed in the middle of the table, which not only creates a uniquely designed table, but allows you to place hot drinks upon – just like an in-built coaster.
Their balcony is their favourite spot due to how cosy it is and carpentry details like the wooden beams on the ceiling and the window frame. It also has a open window space that is inspired from Matt and Alle’s home (https://youtu.be/bbuTJyMh7aM).
Last but not least, their master bedroom will be a point of attraction for many Singaporeans. It’s extra large because of the combination of another common bedroom, but instead of a walk-in wardrobe that many others would utilise it for – it is now a special attached mahjong room.
Special thanks to Qian Wei and Charmaine for showing us around their charming self-designed home.
