This week, we visit one of the most uniquely designed homes that were specially built for a family with two young daughters.
Designed by Gwen Tan of Formwerkz Architects, it was conceptualised based on the brief from the family: the father wanted his daughters to experience the joy of running around freely as they were growing up. As such, the aptly named Ramp House was designed with ramps that wrap around the house that can take you from the garden on the ground floor to the rooftop 20-metre swimming pool.
The ramps also connect you to the various levels seamlessly, but more importantly, it also acts as a shield for the living spaces against the heat and tropics of Singapore’s weather.
The lower part of the ramp was made of a fibreglass crate that lets light and ventilation into the basement and landscape, while the top part of the ramp has a glass slot at the edge to bring light into the spaces.
Special thanks to Gwen for showing us around the beautiful home.
